(OCD) meaning Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is quite a common Psychological trauma of mental health. It involves obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviours. It can affect anyone and at any age. Some people develop the Psychological trauma in puberty but it mainly occurs in early adulthood. OCD can be distressing and interfere significantly with a person life, but treatment can keep it under control. Symptoms of the Psychological trauma of OCD are frequent obsessive thoughts and or compulsive behaviours. An obsession is unwanted or unpleasant thoughts, image or an urge that repeatedly enters your mind. This then causes feelings of trauma of Anxiety, disgust or feelings of unease. A compulsion is a repetitive behaviour or Psychological mental health act that you feel you need to carry out to relieve the unpleasant feelings that can occur and are brought on by an obsessive thought. An example is someone constantly thinking of their house being burgled and the feelings that they must keep checking that the windows and doors are locked before they can actually leave the house. Some people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are reluctant to seek help because they feel ashamed or embarrassed. There is nothing to be afraid of as it is just another physical condition like any other illness. It does not mean you are mad and it’s not your fault it has developed. If you have OCD a doctor will refer you to a specialist for treatment. The two treatments for OCD are Psychological trauma therapy called Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This is a therapy that helps you face your inner self and helps alleviate you trauma of Anxiousness. Because it is a trauma of Anxiety Disorder it involves the Sympathetic nerve in the body/brain barrier. CBT helps correct the body mentalist attitude that is forming the anxiousness of thoughts. Medication is also sometimes used and these are called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI’s). It’s unclear what causes Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but family history is one reason, possibly because of your genes. People with OCD have differences in brain chemicals and are usually low in Serotonin and have unusually high activity in their brain.
Almost everyone sufferers from unpleasant or unwanted thoughts at moments in their life. But if you have persistent thoughts that dominate your thinking processes and overrule other thoughts then this is because you may have OCD. Common obsessions that are involved with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are: fear of harming yourself or other’s; mistakenly harming you or others with obsessive thoughts about leaving the cooker on and burning the house down; a need for symmetry and orderliness like having on the labels in your kitchen cupboard all facing the same way. Compulsive behaviours are a way to reduce the feelings of the Psychological trauma of Anxiety caused by the obsessive thoughts. If you have excessive behaviours that are not reasonably connected such as contamination of germs via keep washing your hands then OCD may be the cause. Most people with OCD realize that compulsive behaviours are irrational and make no sense.
